As they see large retailer names splashed across headlines, many small-to-medium size businesses (SMBs) owners are left with the false sense that their companies are too small to be victim of a breach. And this can’t be further from the truth.

But as Michael Bruemmer, Vice President Experian Data Breach Resolution, points out small businesses can be a particularly attractive target to hackers as many of them often lack resources to manage cybersecurity.

Today, even the smallest of businesses can run on sophisticated software systems once only available to corporate behemoths, allowing them to do more -- and profit mightily -- with less. If they buy the right system, that is. Often they don’t. As it turns out, they make the wrong choice at least a third of time.

The emergence of the Millennial workforce has forced companies to reevaluate their office environments and to view office space not as an amortized asset but as a strategic tool to attract and retain talent and to drive organizational growth and effectiveness.  

More than half of 1,000 small-business owners surveyed believe they are better-prepared to secure sensitive customer and corporate data than are large businesses.

Just as staff members need to trust that their employer is keeping their personal information under wrap, so, too, do customers, whether they swipe their debit card at the cash register or make an online credit-card purchase.
