University of Nevada, Reno, launches Nevada Autonomous for UAS testing
The University of Nevada, Reno has launched Nevada Autonomous, a new program to manage and enhance Nevada’s Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Test Site activities. The UAS Test Site service was created following Nevada’s designation by the Federal Aviation Administration as one of seven states to serve as a center for the development and testing of unmanned autonomous vehicles and systems. The program includes:
-Assisting with development of grant and contract proposals in current and emerging research areas of unmanned aircraft systems and aerial mobility
-Fostering collaborations between industry and research institutions
-Providing operations space and support to startup companies developing autonomous systems technology
-Providing operational support for UAS Test Site activities including airworthiness, personnel certification, operations management, location assessment, Certificate of Authorization development and safety management
Nevada Autonomous is part of UNR’s Nevada Center for Applied Research which opens access for business and industry to the institution’s leading-edge labs, equipment, expertise and services. Opened in 2015 and supported by the Nevada Knowledge Fund through GOED, the Nevada Center for Applied Research has been part of securing more than $32.6 million in grants, contracts, gifts and agreements, and its affiliated companies have created more than 130 jobs.
